Spotlight on a high-tech hospital – University Health Centre USZ

Designed by the Japanese architect, Riken Yamamoto, a new health centre providing various medical services has opened at the heart of the new ‘The Circle’ district at Zurich Airport.

The building, integrated into the structure of a small city centre, stands out on the one hand with its sloping glass façade, and on the other, through its buttressed façade elements.

Extending over the entire building, the lighting concept is a playful arrangement of differently-sized circular luminaires. This creates a distinctive visual identity and somewhat relaxes the otherwise rather austere hospital environment.

For the living areas, a special lighting solution providing soft lighting creates a relaxing atmosphere. In some areas, decorative luminaires also set elegant accents. In the basement which has no natural light, the imaging area which also houses the LINAC linear accelerator features a long ceiling light which reproduces the daylight cycle according to the geolocation of Zurich.
