A symbiosis of glass, light and stone – Hotel Leo, St. Gallen
This new hotel shares the same grounds as the historic Villa Wiesental and ensures its preservation. Constructed as a distinct high-rise slab, the building slots in between the villa and the station and college grounds. A public space with seating has been created between the hotel and the villa, with the building forming a prelude to the adjacent commercial buildings. The materials used – a white-grey clinker brick for the façade, terrastone blocks, and glass bricks in the interior – have a local connection.
The luminaire design is also characterised by the use of high-quality materials such as glass and metal. The family of luminaires that decorate the hotel appear as a recurring element and support the language of the architecture. At the same time, the luminaires represent the latest state of the art.
The lighting in the entrance and hotel lobby consists of decorative glass pendant and free-standing luminaires. Scaled-down versions of the same lamps have been installed in the hotel rooms, resulting in a coherent experience for guests. The room numbers in the guest corridors also consist of high-quality luminous glass. Here too, the luminaire satisfies the decorative and the technical specifications in equal measure.
