Underground elegance – Unterer Graben multi-storey car park, St. Gallen
The Central multi-storey car park in St. Gallen was opened on 20 March 2025 after a five-year construction period. This project consists of a newly designed underground car park, which was realised by fully underpinning the existing structure and creating an innovative basement construction.
The massive, brightly illuminated bored pile retaining walls are not only a mark of engineering excellence, but also create a fascinating contrast to the dynamic lighting design of the interior. Delicate lines of light float above the driving lanes like artistic sculptures and guide drivers on their way to the six underground parking levels.
More than just a functional structure, the Central car park serves as a showcase of contemporary architecture and smart lighting design that enhances St. Gallen’s urban landscape.
