Shopping in high spirits along the river – Sihlcity Shopping Centre, Zurich
The popular Sihlcity shopping centre is now located on the site of Zurich’s former paper mill on the Sihl River. For the remodelling, the public spaces were given a fresh, convivial atmosphere based on the concept of the flow of a river, with individual islands for relaxation and catering.
The lighting echoes the architecture, guiding visitors through the space in an undulating manner with differently-curved light lines according to function:
– powerful indirect lighting illuminates the ceiling, creating an inviting ambience;
– integrated and evenly-distributed downlights illuminate the floor, creating a pleasant and contrasting visual identity;
– spotlights mounted on hanging bars illuminate specific areas and, with specially-adapted LED inserts, ensure healthy plant growth.
The result is a cohesive overall concept which is inspired by the Sihl River that flows below and is discreetly integrated into the shopping centre.
