Les Atmosphères: An architectural play of light – Quartier de l’Etang, Ilot A, Geneva

The Etang neighbourhood in Vernier (Geneva), built on a former industrial wasteland, was conceived to create a high quality of life for residents. The “Les Atmosphères” base building, with its five towers, serves as a landmark for the neighbourhood and offers a variety of public spaces and high-quality services. The complex consists of three layers: the base building, a podium offering access to a hotel, offices, student flats and a shopping centre, and the towers with their different façades.

The lighting concept of “Les Atmosphères” is characterised by harmonious, soft lighting effects that avoid glare and set the architecture centre stage. The linear lighting embedded in the horizontal bands around the façade creates an interesting interplay with the undulating metal elements. In the interior, the light colours and wooden surfaces provide for clarity of design, while the patterns are reminiscent of fingerprints or wooden circles and create a unique visual identity. Indirect lighting in the suspended ceilings emphasises the architectural accents and ensures uniform illumination of the circulation areas. Daylight sensors supplement the artificial lighting to ensure optimum lighting conditions.
