Therapeutic art on the Rhine – Novartis Campus Basel, Asklepios 8

Situated directly on the Rhine, at the north-eastern periphery of the Novartis Campus next to the Dreirosenbrücke, this high-rise designed by Basel architects Herzog & de Meuron makes a striking impression. It creates a connection between the campus and the Rhine promenade. The side facing the river houses a public restaurant, functioning like a huge plinth for the building that towers up behind it.

The Asklepios 8 building effectively doubles the building height envisaged in the master plan by means of a three-storey volume whose structure is clearly visible from the outside. A seemingly countless series of filigree round columns, staggered downwards, lend the façade a shimmering quality.
