The city inside a building – Alterszentrum Sankt Bernhard, Wettingen

Individual mobility is a central prerequisite for an independent lifestyle and an important basis for a high quality of life in old age. The "city inside a building" concept encourages variety in the residents' daily lives.

Like the streets in a residential area, the circulation routes are diffusely and comfortably lit. Lighting accentuates the room doors, creating a warm welcome for each of the residents. In the care rooms, careful attention went into creating a homelike atmosphere to reflect the intimacy and comfort of a private home. The common areas are reminiscent of shops in pedestrian zones: there too, lighting is diffuse and vertical. The atrium is the heart of the building. In the Plaza, the luminaires are oriented towards the columns, reminiscent of an main citysquare, creating an urban meeting place that invites people to linger.

The luminaires' clear design language and the different formats in the various areas make navigating through the building easier.
